History

of Crown Point Christian School

1985

In 1985, Crown Point Christian School first welcomed preschool-age children under our wings at First Christian Reformed Church in Crown Point, Indiana. Our first Kindergarten class enrolled just three students. Year after year, however, CPCS continued to add a grade level through Grade 5 and eventually offered Grades 6 through 8 as well.

1998

By 1998, CPCS outgrew its original location, and, soon thereafter, outgrew its second location. The steady, rapid growth of CPCS enrollment proved challenging, leading to different grade levels being situated at different locations. Through it all, however, CPCS was fully supported by our community of dedicated administration, faculty, staff, and parents. Through that unwavering support, CPCS became fully accredited by Christian Schools International and the State of Indiana. CPCS also became a member of the Indiana Non-Public Education Association.

2007

In spite of successful accreditation, available space for CPCS students and faculty remained our foremost challenge. God’s faithfulness answered CPCS’ prayers in 2007 when CPCS opened the doors to a newly constructed facility in a residential neighborhood known as The Gates of St. John in St. John, Indiana. Enrollment continued in steady growth. New programs became available with additional space, unified faculty, and improved technology. From 2007 through 2016, the current CPCS location underwent four capital improvements including a gymnasium, kitchen, two separate classroom wings, an additional entryway, parking lot additions, landscape improvements, playground improvements, improved technology, and outdoor athletic surfaces. CPCS facilities host a rotation of events including Open House, the Winter Jubilee concert series, the annual Auction, Grandparents Day, various other student concerts and theatre productions, and private gatherings.

2015

Though the facilities were growing, CPCS remained focused on Christ-centered education. CPCS dedicated curriculum to its STEAM program as well as maintaining programs in the arts, orchestra, and other extracurricular activities all through the lens of biblical principles. In 2015, CPCS followed God’s challenge to offer dual-language education in Spanish. Partnering with Add.a.lingua, CPCS offers Spanish immersion learning for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5.

2019

From our meager beginnings in 1985 with three (3) students in our Kindergarten class to welcoming over 740 students for the 2019-2020 school year, CPCS stands in awe of the grace of God’s provision. What started as a Reformed Christian education institution in a single church has grown into a beacon of evangelical service representing 57 local church communities. Through all of God’s blessings, CPCS continues to revel in what God has planned for our future. CPCS remains confident that in partnership with dedicated and ambitious leadership, focus and prayer on God’s vision for Christ-centered education at CPCS, and a heart toward achieving our full potential, the best indeed is yet to come!
